Billboard Construction

Franklin Outdoor Advertising is one of the largest outdoor advertising companies in Minnesota. We offer our clients a variety of advertising formats, helping local as well as national businesses succeed in a highly competitive environment.

The purpose of this position is to construct and dismantle billboard structures, maintain billboards, perform vegetation removal, structure and site prep/maintenance. This position most often works with one other crew member and must be able to manage work schedules effectively. We provide all training and equipment to start your career. Per diem/paid hotel for qualifying travel plus a paid med card for CDL drivers. Pre-scheduled overnight stays required at times. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install and maintain all billboards.
  • Erect and dismantle billboard structures.
  • Responsible for structure and vegetation maintenance, including painting, repairing structures and all related parts, cutting and trimming trees, etc.
  • Maintain and construct structures - Perform repairs that include but are not limited to: tightening bolts, painting steel structures, repairing trim and various parts of the sign face and structure, change light bulbs as needed, paint structures, assemble structures and faces when required.
  • Load/organize trucks with daily supply of tools and other materials and drive to sign site.
  • Responsible for pre and post trip preparations including completing documentation of trip as well as vehicle and equipment maintenance.
  • Set up ladders and safety equipment to climb signs.
  • Responsible for basic electrical maintenance such as replacing light bulbs.
  • Ensure that the shop and materials yard is clean, organized, and that old billboard vinyl's and structure material are stored properly or prepared for recycling.
  • Attend construction and installation safety meetings as required and adhere to all safety regulations.
  • Responsible for taking completion photos for proof of performance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to climb heights and work at heights above ground safely.
  • Good communication skills. Ability to speak and read English fluently.
  • Ability to safely use construction and vegetation equipment, in regard to the construction and maintenance of outdoor structures.
  • Ability to learn to safely use welding and torching equipment.
  • Must be able to work alone as well as work and get along well with others, managing your work schedule effectively.
  • Physically capable to perform assigned tasks.
  • Construction, billboard installation experience, working knowledge of fabrication skills and techniques a plus, but not required.
  • Use a smart phone for various job tasks.
  • Ability to document installations, through photographs and written logs.
  • Skill in the practical applications of mathematics, in relation to construction and operations tasks.
  • Ability to learn and follow instructions correctly and in a timely manner.
  • General knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Franklin safety regulations/requirements and behavioral standards.
  • A restriction-free CDL license is highly encouraged.
  • Drive and operate boom, digger derrick and bucket trucks.
  • Install various interior/exterior signage.
  • Previous experience working at heights up to 100 feet above ground preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to complete OSHA 10 hour construction course.
  • Preferred certifications include CDL, Crane, Signal, Rigging, Welding.
  • Construction and/or billboard installation experience a plus, but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The primary work environment for this position is outdoors, requiring the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and climb to heights up to 100 ft.
  • The physical demands for this position include heavy lifting (up to 100 pounds), extensive bending, pushing, reaching, seeing (with a focus on reading, color distinction, acuity, depth perception, and peripheral vision), sitting less than 50% of the time, standing, stooping, talking, turning, walking, driving, and climbing.

Sign Installers

The purpose of this position is to install and maintain billboards, including installation of advertisements, maintenance of structures, and the upkeep of all advertising equipment. This position most often works with one other crew member and must be able to manage work schedules effectively. We provide all training and equipment to start your career. DESCRIPTION

  • Remove and hang panels from billboards, remove and hang vinyl's, cut and prepare extensions and vinyl's for installation.
  • Maintain structures - repairs include but not limited to: tightening bolts, painting steel structures, repairing trim and various parts of the sign face and structure, change light bulbs as needed, paint structures, assemble structures and faces when required.
  • Building and installing extensions, cutting brush/weeds, conduct storm damage repairs, minor electrical repairs, and sweeping/cleaning workshop area.
  • Install, fabricate, remove, upgrade on premise business signage.
  • Use power/manual tools, must adhere to all safety regulations.
  • Maintain operation vehicles; maintain tools, equipment and machinery.
  • Responsible for taking completion photos for proof of performance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Good communication skills. Ability to speak and read English fluently.
  • Must be willing to work efficiently and get along well with others.
  • Basic computer skills including Internet navigation and Microsoft Word & Excel.
  • Ability to comply with safety standards while performing work.
  • Ability to work from ladders and to carry a ladder and/or other tools to the work site from vehicle.
  • Ability to safely use construction equipment, with regard to the construction and maintenance of outdoor structures.
  • Ability to climb heights and work at heights above ground safely.
  • Ability to document installations, through photographs and written logs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Preferred certifications include CDL/Non-CDL, Crane, Signal, Rigging, SMAW Welding (higher pay with certs).
  • Previous experience working at heights preferred.
